Dominican Republic Service Trip
I have been to Dominican Republic Service Trip with Watkinson twice .I gained important life skills as well as awareness about global issues.
My commitment to the trip prior to traveling: I would conclude the experience that I learn from this trip and use it in my real life, by observing carefully what’s people’s daily life as well as their difficulties. I’m sure my perspective of looking things would change after this trip. I would find the similarities between my study experience and the life I am currently involved in, and try to apply them so that I could make progress. Besides, I would share my experience with my classmates at school base on what I learn. So that my classmates could have awareness and common understandings that are able to improve their life. Therefore, I am able to promote my experience to the school.
The actual experience was meaningful as well. I could now imagine how the actual workers in sugar field experience hardship. Not only the living condition, the people were also discriminated for being who they are. When I worked in Med Clinic, standing for hours and remembering different names of the meds, I was tired. However, when I saw so many desperate eyes- from women, men, the elder, children- I knew I couldn't stop because I was their only hope.

Watkinson School Jordan Trip
There are so many things to say about Jordan Trip. It wasn't like any trip I've been to and the Jordanian culture was not like any culture I've experienced. Traditionally, when I travel to another country, I would pick the "tourist" place, like famous historical sites where people learn about its history and take photos. However, in Jordan, my experience was beyond this. I not only visited the historical site- Petra, but also visited placed only the locals would know. We stayed in small family-styled hotels, tried local food we've never seen or eaten before. We also connected our experience with the world by visiting NGOs regarding immigrant crisis and LGBTQ rights. Every night, we sat down in a circle, sharing our own perspectives of what we learned during the day. A day in Jordan could be fun, delicious, informative, adventurous, profound, and even cold. I remember one of the best day was when we were assigned a group and did treasure hunt in Amman city by ourselves- which I would never dreamed of. With language barrier and pouring rain, we were still able to arrive at our final destination with joy in our heart.
Another fun experience was staying in the dessert. The Bedouin tea was so tasty. I didn't know it was because of the tea itself or the fact that we were having tea with local people in the actual Bedouin tribe. In general, this experience was so unique that I would never forget.
